Knowing I’ve earned her trust makes me whole

“I used dinner time as a tool to develop trust between Gabby and myself. She has had to learn to sit and wait, trust the process, and to trust me. It took a lot of time, patience, and work to develop that trust. Now, feeding her is the moment that lights up my day, because this is when her personality comes out. Having been abused in the past, she was stifled. It has only been over the last year that we’ve seen glimpses of Gabby’s personality. The year and a half before that, her eyes lacked expression. She was shut down and shut off. I was willing to go the extra mile for her, to give her the care and patience she needed. Now, when dinner comes around, Gabby gets excited! She prances, jumps, and turns! It’s like she’s turned into a puppy. She’ll even do circles around my legs. Now, her eyes are expressive! Knowing I’ve earned her trust makes me whole.”
