Knowing that Spike, Eddie, and Lily are all going to be gathered around me before bed, brings me so much joy and love

“Knowing that Spike, Eddie, and Lily are all going to be gathered around me before bed, brings me so much joy and love. Every evening at 9:30 p.m. Eddie will get up, and go to the basket of toys. He picks out the toy he wants to take to bed that night. Spike, the youngest, will see him, and go over, and instigate a game of tug-of-war. Eddie, always the one to give in, will return to the basket and pick out a new toy. Once he has, I’ll announce it is time for bed, and they all run for their favorite spot to settle in for the night. Spike gets into his space between the pillows, while Eddie waits with his toy so we can play a game or two before falling asleep. Lily, my oldest furbaby, is at the foot of the bed. In the morning as we wake up, Eddie will go and put his face to her and she’ll start to clean him in their very own bonding ritual. It’s beautiful to see how they have connected with each other, as well as me. Our connectedness is important. Over the last five years I’ve lost several family members. Spike, Eddie, and Lily knew what I was going through, and were there for me. They’re very intuitive. They make the bad days better. They take care of me and I take care of them. The absence of human children could have left me with a void. Instead, because of them, I am filled with unconditional love.”
